The Lekurruki Community Group Ranch is North of Mount Kenya in an area covering 60,000 acres in a lush indigenous forest of Mukogodo bordering the vast plains of Lekurruki, dotted with Acacia and Newtonia trees. The Lekurruki Community Group Ranch experience is as much about learning about Maasai culture as it is enjoying the game and wilderness that this wonderful part of Kenya has to offer.

The Lekurruki Group Ranch is far from any towns on the edge of the Laikipia Plateau and is part of Kenya's wild Northern Frontier District. Here, land stretches endlessly to the horizon, you will not see a single light at night and the calls of the wild surround you.

The ranch is not a ranch in the traditional sense of the word. Rather it is a huge tract of land with cedar forest to the west then stretching down the Mokogodo escarpment onto the plains reaching the Ngare Ndare River on the Eastern boundary.

The local Mukogodo Masai are historically hunter gatherers and bee keepers, but assimilation with the neighboring pastoralist tribes have meant that they too have now adopted the pastoralist way of life. The villages have still kept their traditional ways, however, have scaled down their livestock activities, are actively protecting the game and have opened a small lodge called Tassia. All profits brought in by tourists are divided among the local community and help to support nearly five hundred households and their schools, cattle dips, water supplies and other group ranch operations.

The awareness of the financial value of wildlife has resulted in the corresponding increase in wildlife numbers in the conservancy. Herds of up to 450 elephant have been seen and the calls of lion and leopard are often heard at night. In addition to this, guest may also see impala, Grant's gazelle, buffalo, eland, gerenuk and Grevy's and Burchell's zebra. The wild and hilly 240km² Lekurruki Community Ranch also acts as a migration corridor between the Samburu Reserve to the north and the Lewa Conservancy and Mount Kenya to the south.

All that said a stay on the Lekurruki is as much about learning about Maasai culture as it is enjoying the game and wilderness that this wonderful part of Kenya has to offer.
