You will be met upon arrival at Kigali airport by your private vehicle and driver/guide and transferred through the land of a thousand hills to the famous Parc National des Volcans. A chance to relax at your lodge, in the shadow of the dramatic Virunga Volcanoes before your gorilla tracking safari starts in the morning!

Overnight: Sabyinyo Silver Back Lodge

Day 2: Volcanoes National Park / Parc National des Volcans

Your first day of gorilla tracking! An early start to make your way to the park headquarters where you are assigned a ranger and a gorilla group. Tracking the gorillas can take anything from 4-8hrs in lush green, steep, muddy, terrain! It is, however, the experience of a lifetime...coming across these amiable primates in their natural surroundings is quite awe-inspiring as you watch them go about their daily lives, playing, grooming, and eating! Return to the lodge later in the afternoon to relax, have a hot shower and reflect on the day’s activities.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Overnight: Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Day 3: Volcanoes National Park / Parc National des Volcans – Kigali City

Another day tracking the breathtaking mountain gorillas of Volcanoes National Park prior to setting off back through the land of a thousand hills to Kigali. A chance to relax and reminisce over the adventures of the last few days prior to your onward flight to Tanzania in the morning.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Overnight: Kigali Serena

Day 4: Kigali City – Mwanza Town – Katavi National Park

An early start this morning for your flight from Kigali directly into Mwanza in Tanzania. From here you have a couple of hours to wait before your onward flight to Katavi National Park. Time permitting enjoy your first game drive this afternoon through the Katavi wilderness.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Overnight: Chada Katavi Tented Camp

Days 5 – 6: Katavi National Park

Two days to enjoy this uniquely isolated National Park in western Tanzania; with over a million hectares of wilderness surrounding you this park is one of the last true remaining wildernesses of Africa. The majority of your wildlife safaris are centered around Lakes "Katavi" and "Chada" - which are more open grasslands in the dry season and wetland areas during the rains. Large numbers of hippo (approx 3,000 in one pool!!), crocodiles, elephants and all other savannah game congregate around these watering holes. With access to the park limited the number of visitors to the park is minimal whilst game viewing is optimal! Usual days in Chada involve morning activities beginning at around 7am. Both walking and driving safaris are available. Afternoon activities start after tea at around 4pm.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Overnight: Chada Katavi Tented Camp

Day 7: Katavi National Park – Mahale Mountains National Park

This morning you set off on the next leg of your adventure. Departing from the Ikuu airstrip to Mahale National Park, on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Landing at the airstrip nestled at the foot of the Mahale Mountains you then have a pleasant cruise on a traditionally constructed (but very comfortable) dhow along the shores of the lake and to the private retreat of Greystoke Camp. Enjoy a picnic lunch along the way. A beautiful camp located at the foot of the Mahale Mountains with a private beach and direct access to one of the largest habituated troops of chimpanzees in Africa.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Overnight: Greystoke Camp

Days 8 – 10: Mahale Mountains National Park

Three full days to track the habituated chimpanzees of Mahale and enjoy all that this amazing lodge has to offer. After an early morning breakfast at camp you set off chimpanzee tracking into the forested foothills of the Mahale Mountains.

The lush tropical jungle surrounds you as you follow the frenetic pant hoots of the chimps off in the distance; it is only when you finally come across them that you realize how privileged you are to spend time with these intelligent apes in their natural habitat. Sometimes sitting in the middle of the group it is difficult not to feel part of the family. A truly amazing experience! Returning to camp in the afternoon spend time relaxing on the soft sands of the private beach or swimming in the gin clear waters, or take a canoe out for a spot of fishing. A perfect way to end the day is to enjoy cocktails and dinner served on the beach! One chimp trek per full/non-transfer day is included and as much boating, fishing, canoeing and forest walks as you’d like.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Overnight: Greystoke Camp

Day 11: Mahale Mountains National Park – Ras Kutani Beach

A relaxing morning prior to transferring by boat back to Mahale airstrip in time for your internal flight from Mahale to Ras Kutani on the coast. Relax upon arrival and reminisce over the adventures of the last few days.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Overnight: Ras Kutani Beach

Days 12 – 14: Ras Kutani Beach

This is the perfect African beach relaxation.
