Mgahinga National Park is the smallest of Uganda’s National Parks and probably most scenic National Park, Mgahinga's main attraction is the large population of mountain gorillas which live within the park for part of the year and are the main focus of activities here.
Situated in the extreme South-Western corner of the Country Mgahinga protects the Ugandan section of the Virunga Mountains forming part of a large conservation area that straddles political boundaries to include Parc de Volcanoes in Rwanda and Parc de Virungas in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Three extinct Volcanoes, part of the spectacular Virunga range, lie within the boundaries of the Ugandan portion of this biologically rich area.
The combination of volcanic lakes, terraced hillsides and volcanoes make this area one of the most dramatic and beautiful of East Africa. A large population of mountain gorillas lives within the park for part of the year feeding on bamboo and mosses and are the main focus of activities.
There are two places in Uganda where the dark, intelligent eyes of a silverback can be found - the Mgahinga National Park and the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
